Speak English MOOC – Speak English-MOOC – English Language MOOC to Improve Speaking Skills

In today’s global world, language competences, particularly foreign language competence, are highly important in almost all areas of life. In various official documents, it is indicated that English is becoming an actual lingua franca being the most taught foreign language, both in Europe and globally. However, according to the EACEA/Eurydice’s latest Key Data on Teaching Languages at School in Europe, the outcome of foreign language learning in Europe is poor and students are still not able to use very simple language, even with support. At the same time, almost half of Europeans report that they are unable to hold a conversation in any language other than their mother tongue. Of all four elements considered in language skills, i.e. reading, writing, listening and speaking, speaking seems to be the most difficult and crucial to develop.

The project Speak English–MOOC will develop and offer contents for a 6-week online training focused on improving speaking skills in the English language. The Speak English-MOOC will be elaborated and offered with complementary services on the Speak English-OER HUB. The partnership is formed by Turkish, Spanish and Austrian experts.
